March 17th
Tonight Martin Brodeur looks to break Patrick Roy's league record for career victories. I am not the biggest hockey fan (nor have I ever professed to be on here) but one cannot help but get caught up in a moment as historical as Marty's eventual eclipsion (not sure if that is a word but it sounds really cool) of Roy's and his own mark of 551 wins. I actually knew very little about Brodeur (and hockey in general) when I first met him several years ago. Since first working with him at our office (probably around 2003?) I have done numerous signings with the legendary goalie both here and at his home in New Jersey. Aside from being one of, if no the, greatest goaltenders in NHL history Marty ranks as one of the nicest, easiest athletes to work with. I remember one time we were signings sticks at his house when all of a sudden (out of nowhere Brodeur's dog lifted his leg and urinated all over the sticks.... luckily the sticks were in plastic bags but none the less it was hysterical. We laughed for quite some time after that as it was difficult to re-start the signing after the incident. That is definitely a pretty random story but ironically that was my number one Brodeur memory... until now. I can't recall the last time I sat and watched a hockey game in it's entirety. This weekend I got very close to viewing the whole Montreal game and , without a doubt, will be locked in this evening.
From a collectors standpoint Marty is a must-have autograph. I rarely throw around the term must-have but any avid hockey fan's memorabilia collection is incomplete with the (soon to be) winningest goalie in NHL history. We already offer a tremendous Brodeur product line and are ready to introduce some new pieces once the old record is shattered. We are already accepting pre-orders on these as the signing will be coming up very soon. There will undoubtably be a lot more Brodeur discussion on here in the coming days...Go Devils!
