June 26th

As I am sitting here buried in seatbacks I am going to push back the lengthy posts for about a day or so. Last night was our appearance at Last Licks NYC with Omir Santos and Bobby Parnell. Today I am spending much of my time not only prepping for a long weekend of signings but also for a huge stretch of signings for our Yankee Stadium seatback project that will go deep into the summer. Tomorrow we have Knicks legends John Starks and Anthony Mason appearing at the Steiner Sports Store (Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City).... hope to see you there and be on the look out for some in depth entrys later this weekend!

June 23rd

As I said yesterday we have a ton of great signings and appearances coming up in the next week or so. With all these going on I have an unbelievable opportunity to get some of the freshest and most unique product possible. Today, rather than talk about the signings, I am just going to pose a few questions to you

-What athletes would you like to see appearing at one of our stores?
-As far as unique product goes what inscriptions interest you as a collector?
-Out of all the guys we have exclusive what kind of product would you, the collector, like to see added to their line?

Chances are your wish list answers may be out of the realm of possibility(or maybe not..you never know) but never the less I am looking forward to reading them. I have always felt that it does matter at all if I like a photo or I like working with a certain athlete ...what matters most is what interests the collectors/customers and what they want.

So tweet me your answers....can't wait to read them.
Have a great day! Big signing day tomorrow so check back for updates.

June 22nd

I believe I last left off talking about that sick run on Yankees signings we had early last week. After a one day lull I headed back out on the road...this time to our flagship store in Roosevelt Field Mall (Steiner Sports Store). The purpose of my day out in lovely traffic free Long Island was a public appearance with Giants star running back Brandon Jacobs. Rarely do we place Giants players in Long Island (most live in New Jersey so it is quite a schlep for them) so I figured this would be a pretty good one. While the weather did not cooporate (really hasn't for several weeks now) we did get a nice turnout. Brandon ranks as one of the most personable athletes in the Steiner Exclusive family and this was never more evident than on Saturday. He took photos with all and even invited a kid to sit with us at the table for most of the event (kid was awesome- he had a similar haircut to Swisher..check out the pics on twitter). After and before the signing Brandon did some pieces in private including mini helmets, photos, footballs and added his name to a special Giants greats project. This project will definitely get a lot of play on this forum over the next few months as we are planning to finish it in conjunction with the start of the upcoming season. Be on the lookout as the weeks go on for more signings and updates on this exciting line of Giants collectibles.
Anyway, after a day off yesterday I came to work early today to start prepping for yet another signing. I was slated to meet up with Jason Kidd mid-morning for a small private autograph session. Even with a small number of pieces being done there is still a ton of preparation that goes into a basketball signing. Each basketball comes in a individual cardboard "Spalding" box where the top and bottom of the ball is covered and can be stood up. The only problem is that the balls do not come with the correct panel for signing flipped up...so, with that in mind, I spent an hour this morning "turning" (as it is intelligently called in the industry) basketballs. This was actually quite easy considering the mammoth signing I have done with Paul Pierce and Larry Bird in the past. Many a time I have had hundreds and hundreds of basketballs drop shipped to me in Indiana and had to turn/flip them with not much time to spare. This time ,however, it was fast and simple and made it downtown in no time for the signing. J has always been one of my favorite athletes to sign with (seriously- check the archives as I have talked him up many times)...granted I am biased towards basketball but he definitely is one of the nicest, most interesting players to talk to. We talked hoops for all twenty minutes of the signing...mostly about my Lakers but about the playoffs in general, the upcoming draft and next season. Once the signing concluded, like always, we were left with a room full of basketballs (they were all over the place..I urged J to be extremely careful as I did not want a freak autograph accident injuring Mr. Triple Double. The next step (which is almost as fun as the turning of the balls) is to bag each basketball. If they are not protected they tend to rub up against each other in the master boxes and smear. The pack up took just as long, if not a little longer, than the signing itself (which is pretty much the norm anyway). Overall though it was a nice, easy and quick signing. Most importantly we finally have Kidd balls back in stock as they are a staple Steiner collectible. The guy is a first ballot hall of famer and a must-have for any hoops collector.
While there are a ton of signings coming up in the next seven days there is one in particular I will touch upon right now. In keeping with the NBA theme of most of this post we have Knicks legends John Starks and Anthony Mason appearing on Saturday at the Steiner Store. These are two of most important pieces of the last great Knicks run. We will have awesome photos on hand...so, all you Knicks fans (there must be some left out there) order a ticket and come by...hope to see you there.
I will try to post as often as possible this week as there is a ton going on. I will also be tweeting (or twittering? whatever it is called) frequently and even running a contest or two on there. Enjoy the rest of the day..Go Mets!

June 18th

Typically when I don't write for a while it means one of three things: 1-There isn't much going on to talk about, 2-There are techinical difficulties publishing the blog (which happens more often than one would think) and 3-We are incredibly busy with signings. This week has been a case of the latter as it has been a whirlwind of a week to this point. After the weekend trifecta of Henry Aaron, Goose Gossage and Joba Chamberlain one would assume it would remotely slow down...it hasn't one bit (those of you following me on twitter can attest to that).
Early Monday afternoon I headed to Edgewater,NJ for a private signing with Melky Cabrera. Melky has become one of the most popular and sought after autographs on this current Yankee roster and, after this signing, we now offer some unique collectibles such as hand signed replica lineupcards (from the walkoff hit game vs Philly) and dual signed Robinson Cano/Melky balls.
After leaving Melky's I headed over not one, but two bridges and braved some crazy traffic in the rain (both traffic and rain seem to be the re-occuring theme of the week) on my way to the Steiner Sports Store for our appearance with another fan favorite- Nick Swisher. Just like in Rye there was a raucous crowd anxiously awaiting Swish's arrival. The voteswisher people were back and in full force and Nick walked to the table to the sound of thunderous applause. Again just like at Last Licks Swish took photos with and got real face time with each and every one of his fans in attendance. A lot of customers even showered Nick wih gifts..normally a few people will bring something for the signer...but never like this. He walked out with minimum ten items that people brought for him (excluding a few red bulls and yoo-hoo's that I am not even including in the fifteen)...it's amazing how playing hard and bringing the energy is more important to the fanbase than putting up numbers... then again Yankee fans know better than anyone that individual gaudy stats do not equate to a team championship. All in all it was another mammoth appearance with Swisher.
Then came Tuesday and Wednesday... Tuesday morning I did a small private signing with yet another Yankee fan hero Brett Gardner. This was the second small signing I have done with Brett in as many weeks. He is one of the hottest selling players right now and that is because of some amazing inscription pieces we have been doing. This signing gave us an opporunity to re-up on our "1st in the park HR" inscription photos and balls. It happens to be one of the best moment photos we have done in quite some time and is sure to be a staple piece for the remainder of the season..if not even longer.
That brings us to yesterday where another Yankee star was up at our office for a private signing. Phil Hughes came up at about 11:20 and knocked an enormous signing in less than an hour and a half. He absolutely crushed it..I was impressed beyond belief. Aside from stocking up on some awesome pieces such as baseballs, photos and Yankee caps Phil also added his name to our recently begun Yankee seatback project. We began this on Sunday with Goose and it will undoubtably be mentioned a million times in the forurm over the ensuing months. There is no question that I will be seeing seatbacks in my sleep with the next few weeks...when all is done though it will most likely be the greatest project I have ever been involved in...later today I will be posting some photos of the signed backs on twitter (so be on the lookout)..I think as each guy signs them I will post a work-in progress image.
Anyway, enjoy what is left of this rainy day and be on the lookout for a Lakers recap post at some point in the near future (picked up my championship t-shirt last night!)

June 15th

Last night was our appearance at the Scarsdale JCC (courtesy of Last Licks Scarsdale). Overall it was an unbelievable event. As usual there was somewhat of an awkward period as people anxiously awaited Joba's arrival (he was coming from the game). This was a little more intensified though than the typical anticipation since Goose was already there signing both in private and for customers that just had Gossage tickets. Chamberlain did finally arrive shortly after six and we, surprisingly, got through it very quickly. Every customer took photos with and both guys were, as always, as gracious as can be with the fans. The reciprocated adulation between these guys and the fans did not surprise me one bit. I have done so many signings over the years with Goose and a fair amount with Joba that I knew, even with the lack of flow (very hard to get a line to perfectly flow with two guys signings) they would both take the time to give customers an incredible experience.
After (and before) the public portion we were able to get some of the fabled seatbacks signed by both Goose and Joba. These are one of the coolest items that we now offer so be on the lookout for images on the site over the ensuing days and weeks.
Sorry to keep this one brief but I have yet another jam-packed day including a private signing with Melky Cabrera and a public appearance with Nick Swisher at the Steiner Sports Store.
Enjoy the day! See you at Swisher...congratulations Lakers!!!

June 14th

I just finished the Leonard Marshall signing at our office and am about to head back out to Last Licks Scarsdale for tonight's Joba/Goose event. While the main focus of the signing was a Giants Greats project (which is slated to be complete just in time for the opening game of the upcoming season) I did manage to get a few excellent inscription pieces for our auctions (which should be up in the next day or so). Over the past few weeks we have added so many great lots to our already impressive auction pages. There are a ton of stellar and unique deals on that particular part of this site..so be sure to take a look. I just posted a few awesome photos up on twitter from the Marshall signing (as I said earlier in the week I am having a difficult time adding images on the blog) so definitely check them out.
See you in Scarsdale in a few hours for Joba and Goose!

June 14th

I am sitting here at my office right now waiting for Leonard Marshall to come sign (for those of you who think I have the ultimate job please take note that it is 8:00 on a Sunday morning and this is a basically normal, routine Sunday for me). I was going to wait until Monday to really get into the Aaron signing but, with a few minutes to spare, I may as well give it a go now...
Yesterday morning around 8:00 (take note again- Saturday morning at 8:00) I headed over to LaGuardia to pick up my friend Henry Aaron. Hank's flight actually touched down a little early and I honestly just got there as he was deplaning (normally I check the flight status but I spaced on it yesterday). After we walked through the airport to a chorus of "Mr. Aaron, Mr. Aaron" we made it to the car and were on our way. Upon putting his bag down Hank immediately noticed the plethora of seatbacks in the truck (Joba and Goose signing today) and the conversation turned to the Yankee Stadium demolition...until we drove past Citi Field and the entire ride then became Nation League Beast banter. I have talked about it several times on this forum but I must say again my favorite Mets conversations have and always will be with Hank. He is such a Braves die-hard (obviously) and it makes for great arguments. Anyway we arrived at Last Licks Rye in no time and was able to start signing the private signing. In what has become the norm as of late there was a ton of mail-order/send-in pieces. Friday night I was in Rye setting this all up (take note again: Friday night) as it would waste way too much time doing it as we were signing. That really is the one negative of the Aaron signings- with me picking him up there is very little lead time for me to be set up and acclamated with the product (which is why I knocked it out a day ahead of time). Once we got through the private Henry began signing for the public a few minutes ahead of schedule. I was even surprised at how big the line was. We have always done well but the crowd exceeded even my expectations. I guess as more of the steroid stories come out and time goes on the appreciation for Henry goes even deeper and gets even stronger. There were people who came from as far as Texas as well as an enthusiastic customer who drove my Rhode Island. The best part about it was that Hank did not disappoint any of them. He took photos with everyone (despite people's inabilities to work their own cameras), shook hands and listened to stories. There was even a person that came with program/scorecards from Henry's time in Puerto Rico Winter Ball. He was breaking records even back then in that league (the customer was nice enough to bring photocopies of the scorecards for Hank and myself..I will post some photos later in the week as they are very, very cool). Anyway, we finished the line pretty much right on time and headed back out the airport. I have been doing this with Hank for the better part of a decade so we are right on like clockwork with timing everything. We flew back to LaGuardia and Henry even got on an earlier flight back to Georgia... while me, on the other hand, got crushed in traffic and got home over an hour later (after stopping at Jackson Hole for a burger). Thankfully I did make it home for the last few innings of that impressive Mets victory over the Yankees and got into bed relatively early as today is just as big a day as yesterday.
Later this morning Leonard Marshall (after signing some awseome project pieces here at our office) will be appearing at Last Licks Scarsdale. Then around 5:00 we have the great Goose Gossage and Joba (no need for last names when it comes to a select few) signing at the Scarsdale JCC.
Hope to see you there...Go Lakers!!

June 12th

I decided to make this post just a quick reminder about the plethora of public appearances we have over the next three days. Unfortunately there really isn't too much discuss other than that as you have all surely read last weeks' entry on the mundane-ness of preparing for a signing (let alone multiple ones). That will definitely change in about twenty four hours when I pick up the Home Run King at the airport. Anyway I will be tweeting frequently and updating this forum each night so be on the lookout for those all weekend.
-Saturday June 13th- Last Licks Rye- Henry Aaron 12:00-1:30
-Sunday June 14th- Last Licks Scarsdale- Leonard Marshall 11:00-12:30
-Sunday June 14th- Last Licks Scarsdale- Joba Chamberlain and Goose Gossage- around 5:00 pending the end time of the Mets win over the Yankees
-Monday June 15th- Steiner Sports Store (Roosevelt Field Mall)- Nick Swisher- 6:00-7:30

So there you have it...all will unequivocally be really great events..hope to see you at one, if not all.
Enjoy the day...Go Lakers!

June 10th

Sorry for the delay in between posts. Those of you who follow me on twitter know that it has been a incredibly hectic week for me both personally and professionally. I am not going to bore you all with the full recap of the past seven days... rather I will give a quick overview and, more importantly, a quick preview of the next week.
Last Monday I was at the Yogi Berra Museum in New Jersey expediting a private signing with Yogi. While I have done countless appearances with Berra this was actually only my third time ever at the museum. It was a fairly large signing and, for the first time in a while, there was actually a ton of new product for Yogi to sign. Over the past year or so we have been working with an incredible photographer and was able to secure four never-before signed images of Yogi (circa 1964). These should be available both signed and unsigned by the end of the month so be on the lookout for them. I will be sure to link their page both on this forum as well as on twitter. Aside from the new photos this was also the first signing we have gotten Yankee Stadium seatbacks signed at. These came out unbelievable as I tried a few different colors..then settled on black. There are several kinds of seatbacks (some have slats, some don't) and I even pulled a few #8s out to be autographed. Probably the coolest of all the pieces were handful that I had Berra sign "It Ain't Over till It's Over 9-21-08" (I will be posting photos of these shortly on twitter so be sure to check them out... experiencing technical difficulty unfortunately adding photos to these posts). Those inscription seats are sure to become a staple piece for us and a must-have for any Yogi and/or Yankee collector.
After Yogi I was out of commission for a few days before getting pulled back into the mix for the Andy Pettitte appearance Saturday at Last Licks Rye. Andy, to my knowledge, had never done a public so we knew it be as good as it gets as far as appearances go. The event itself was sold out for well over a week and everyone on line was ecstatic to meet Pettitte. As I have said in the past Andy has become one of my favorite athletes to work with. As a player I hated him forever (I was destroyed after Game 5 in 2000) but it is very difficult for me to root against now after getting to know him. He is one of the nicest celebrities around and that really reflected in the two hours we spent in Rye with the fans. Andy took photos with everyone and I have gotten some of the most positive feedback ever from customers at the event. It was, by far, the most fun I have had at an appearance in a long time.
Then there was Monday where I headed into Manhattan for a small private signing with Jorge Posada. I have said this in the past but need to re-iterate: I can't stand doing signings in Manhattan. It is virtually impossible to park, let alone unload and that generally leads to very little lead time to set up for the signing. Monday was exactly that scenario but, as always, got through it virtually unscathed. I did, however, need to literally pull up on the curb to re-load my truck back up.
That brings us to yesterday-Tuesday. In the morning I did a small private signing with legendary Notre Dame coach (and ESPN commentator)Lou Holtz. This was a relatively tiny signing as far as the product mix went and the main focus was on three brand new images (same photographer , in the same vein as the stellar new Yogi photos). These photos were taken during the 1990 season and Lou even dated quite a few of them. They came out absolutely incredible and will be up on this site later in the month. While the signing was done in no time we were able to get a little NBA Finals talk in as Coach Holtz is an Orlando guy. With me a big Lakers fan it definitely made for some great banter...(I am glad the signing was yesterday and not today)
The above gets us basically up to speed so now it is time to move forward as we have some amazing signings and appearances coming up over the next few days. Saturday we have my friend Hank Aaron signing at Last Licks Rye. Then on Sunday we have a huge day in Scarsdale with Giants great Leonard Marshall appearing early in the day then Goose Gossage and Joba Chamberlain signing after that day's Yankee game. It should be quite interesting to have that pair together. Monday the 15th Yankee fan-favorite Nick Swisher will be appearing at the Steiner Store (Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City)... for those of you who could not make it to the Rye signing a few weeks ago I urge you to attend as it will undoubtedly be a lot of fun. Aside from those five guys signing there are sure to be a lot more going on in the upcoming seven to ten days. With that in mind keep checking back for updates and announcements as well as on twitter where I will be posting photos regularly and running some contests.
Enjoy what is left of this rainy day.
Let's Go Mets! Go Lakers...2 more wins..!
